James Milton Harter, 78, formerly of Ninety Six, died on Thursday, June 29, 2017, at Richard M Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.
Born in Ninety Six, he was the son of the late W. J. Harter and Katie Highsmith Harter. Milton was a U. S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was the owner and operator of Ninety Six Star Fort Trading Post also known as "Harter's".
Surviving are his sons, Johann Harter and Yurgen Harter and his wife, Bernice, all of Ninety Six; a sister, Terry Davis of Ninety Six; two brothers, Wade Harter of Ninety Six and Steve Harter of Georgia; and two grandchildren, Dillon and Austin Harter, both of Ninety Six.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Chuck Sprouse and Mr. Tim McKinney officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tim McKinney, Willie Wilson, Charlie Rachels, Austin Harter, Dillon Harter, and Steve Simpson.
Honorary escort will be Rudy Wallace and Bob Carwile.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The family members are at their respective homes.
