Obituary

Monty Hobson Gunn, 85, husband of Kathleen McQuown Gunn and the late Marit Kristiansen Gunn, passed away peacefully when God called him on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at his home.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughters, Anne Soviero (Paul) of Hilton Head, SC, Mary Toro Owens (Matt) of Irmo, SC and Michelle Toro (Hunter Cape) of Greenwood, SC; his grandchildren, Sofia, Analisa and Vincent Soviero, Cassidy Robertson, Tanner and Talon Owens; his sisters, Delia Boyett of Gulf Shores, AL, Nancy Fields of Pensacola, FL and Verna Neese (Dale) of Milton, FL. In addition to his immediate family, Monty had many beloved sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, including a cherished nephew, Howard Fields of Lillian, AL.

In addition to his parents, John Charles and Nell Reeves Gunn, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Charles "Chick" Gunn.

Born on February 27, 1940 in Pensacola, FL, Monty was a dedicated plumber and handyman until the ripe age of 75. He served in the US Navy for four years and the Army National Guard for 16 years. He was a long time member of the Roman Catholic Church.

Monty was an avid Nascar fan and enjoyed his daily Breakfast Club at McDonald's. He traveled many times to Norway to visit Emil and Linn and their son, Thyge, who were like family to him. He also made many trips to Columbia and Hilton Head to visit with children and grandchildren. He enjoyed taking care of the family farm, mowing the lawn and teaching his family through his life lessons.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the staff of Agape Hospice, especially his nurse, Izzy Ronan, for their loving care.

The family will receive friends at Harley Funeral Home on Monday from 5 - 7 p.m.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 915 Mathis Road, Greenwood, SC, with the Rev. Fr. Francisco Onate-Vargas. His final resting place will be in Barrancus National Cemetery, Pensacola, FL.
