Obituary
Rebecca "Nanny Joyce" Smith, 91, of 6808 Highway 702, Ninety Six, widow of Harold Edgar Smith, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2023 at her home.
Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Hugh Mcgookin and Eva Getsinger Mcgookin. She retired from Lander University after serving in the cafeteria for over twenty years and attended Ninety Six Pentecostal Holiness. Nanny Joyce loved taking care of her grandchildren, reading, cooking Sunday dinner every Sunday, her "Kitty Cat", and above all else her family.
She is survived by her children, Tommy Smith (Linda) and Carol Howard (Steve); sisters, Eva Mcgookin and Janie Mcgookin; grandchildren, Chris Howard (Ashley), Katy Howard (Tre), Kristian Smith, Timothy Smith (Chelsea Childs), Landon Smith, and Patricia Gilbert (Matthew); and great grandchildren, Lacie Howard, Eleanor Howard, Khloe Richard, Remington Richard, Colton Smith, Serra Gilbert, Michael Gilbert, and Madilyn Gilbert.
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a son, Michael Smith; sister, Elizabeth Mcgookin; brother, Samuel Mcgookin; and grandsons, Glenn Smith and Austin Smith.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Ray Pilgrim and Rev. Brian Brock officiating.
The family members are at their respective homes.
