Sarah Nell Hodges McAlister, 90, widow of Clyde O. "Catfish" McAlister, died Wednesday, September 10, 2025.
Born in Greenwood, Nell was a daughter of the late Sloan and Grace Cobb Hodges. She was formerly employed by Parke-Davis and retired from Health Related Services.
A proud member of the Harris Baptist Church and the Master Disciple Sunday School Class, Nell was deeply immersed in her spiritual journey, dedicating countless hours to reading the Bible, a daily ritual she cherished. Remarkably, she was in the process of reading the Bible for the 33rd time-a testament to her deep connection to her faith. She was also a member of The Order of the Eastern Star.
Nell treasured the joyful moments spent with "the girls," her daughters, sisters and nieces, basking in laughter during trips to the beach and creating memories that will forever resonate within her family. Her life was a tapestry of love, faith, and resilience, and she leaves behind a family that is grateful for the time they had with her.
Nell is survived by her children, Debbie Parker (Bobby) and Tony McAlister (Jennie); sisters, Edna Posey and Lynda Tanner; grandchildren, Travis Allen (Terri), Nathan McAlister (Amy), Jonathan McAlister (Katie), Meredith McAlister Antoniak (Gavin), Jace Stone and Savanna Stone; great grandchildren, Will Allen, Parker McAlister, Mathew Allen, Natalie McAlister, Zach Allen, Anna Claire Antoniak and Livy Antoniak; a special niece, Vickie Sutley and numerous other nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.
In addition to her husband and her parents, Nell was preceded in death by sisters, Jean Spear, Mary Ann Stroud and Nancy Odell; brothers, Bill Hodges and Marshall Hodges; and a grandson, Nicholas Allen.
