Nellie Doris Dove Buchanan, 98, of 223 Marshall Circle, Greenwood, widow of John Belton "JB" Buchanan, died Sunday, October 1, 2017 at her home.
Born in Greenwood, she was the daughter of the late Shannon and Mary Fowler Dove. Nellie retired from Greenwood Mills where she was a member of the Quarter Century Club and was a charter member of New Market Baptist Church where she was the former teacher for the Helping Hands Sunday school class. She was a special grandmother who had a deep abundant love for all her grandchildren.
Nellie was the last surviving member of her family.
Surviving are a son, John Belton Buchanan, Jr.(Gussie), of Prosperity; three grandchildren: Kim Kelly, raised in the home, Jackie Ginn and John Buchanan, III, all of Greenwood; four great grandchildren, Ben Kelly of Greenwood, Chad Pruitt of Simpsonville, Heather Shirley and Christopher Fields, both of Greenwood; six great-great grandchildren; and a special caregiver, Maxine Cockrell.
Services will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday at Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Stanley Sprouse officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Ben Kelly, Chad Pruitt, Christopher Fields, Ray Scott, Bobby Stone and Barry Whitworth.
Honorary escort will be the members of the Helping Hands Sunday school class.
Visitation will be held before the service at the funeral home from 11 am to 12 pm.
