Our family regretfully announces the unexpected passing of Nicholas Alexander Hastings who left this earth on May 23, 2026.
Born in Syktyvkar, Russia, on May 31, 1998, Nicholas joined the Hastings family when he was two and a half years old through adoption. As the youngest child, Nicholas quickly became not only a beloved member of the Hastings family but also a cherished part of the Greenwood community. To so many friends, neighbors, and family members, he felt like everyone’s little brother.
An avid learner, Nicholas loved exploring big ideas and imagining what was possible. He was endlessly curious about the world and genuinely interested in the stories, perspectives, and experiences of others. Nicholas could spend hours discussing philosophy, faith, culture, politics, travel, and the future. His intellectual curiosity carried him far beyond Greenwood. He completed secondary education at Asheville School. After spending a gap year in Berlin, studying German, he attended the University of San Francisco and completed his undergraduate studies at The University of Louisville. He did post-graduate studies at The University of Surrey in England and most recently studied film at the Georgia Film Academy. These experiences deepened his appreciation for different cultures and strengthened his desire to understand people from all walks of life.
When in Greenwood, Nicholas found comfort and community at First Presbyterian Church, where he enjoyed worship, fellowship, and opportunities to grow spiritually. He loved deeply, cared sincerely, and left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him. Above all, Nicholas will be remembered for his tender heart.
Nicholas is survived by his loving parents; Kelly and David Hastings, his sister, Lacy Galloway (Grier), brother, Hunter Hastings (Sara); nieces and nephews, Hastings Galloway, Grace Galloway, Elizabeth Hastings and William “Hunt” Hastings; grandmother, Edna Hastings; step grandfather, Ted Colcolough; and a large extended family and community of friends who loved him dearly.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Sunday at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Brad Christie officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following in the church foyer.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church. 108 East Cambridge Ave, Greenwood, SC 29646 (Firstgreenwood.org).
Though his time with us was far too short, the impact of his life will continue to be felt in the countless people he touched with his kindness, empathy, and the unique light he brought into the lives of others.
