Patty Lou Saylor Wates, 76, of 227 Loblolly Circle, wife of William "Bill" Melvin Wates, passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at HospiceCare of the Piedmont.
Born in Greenville, PA, she was a daughter of the late Harold Clayton and Alvie Lou Eakin Saylor. Pat retired from the Greenwood County Engineering Office after 28 years of faithful service. She was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star Century Chapter 100 of Jamestown, PA. Pat was a member of Callie Self Memorial Baptist Church and attended Emerald Baptist Church. Pat was an avid bowler and she and her husband bowled on various leagues for more than 30 years.
In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by her brother, Noel Bronson of Charlotte, NC.
Surviving in addition to her husband of the home are her children, Cynthia Ferguson Stone, Rebecca Ferguson Lomax (Neil), both of Greenwood, William Ferguson, Jr. (Dayle) of Mars, PA; sister, Betty Cook of Greenville, PA; grandchildren, Janessa Gross Lyle (Josh) of Woodstock, AL, Heather Gross of Spartanburg, Clay Stone of Greenwood, Austin Baten (Catherine) of Boston, MA, Cole Ferguson, Cory Ferguson, Caden Ferguson, all of Mars, PA; and great grandchildren, Kaleb Lyle and Hannah Lyle, both of Woodstock, AL. Pat enjoyed a deep and special friendship that spanned more than 30 years with Lynda Clark "Lil Sis" of Greenwood, SC. Pat was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and will be deeply missed.
A private committal service and burial will be held for the family at 1:00 p.m. on Monday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens followed by a memorial service for all family and friends at 2:00 p.m. at Emerald Baptist Church with the Rev. Frank Thomas officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to HospiceCare of the Piedmont, 408 W Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646.
