Patricia "Pat" Smith Garrett, 86, of Greenwood, SC, wife of Harry Garrett, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2024, from complications of Dementia.
She was born on September 21, 1938, in Elberton, Georgia to the late John C. Smith and Thelma Belle Smith.
Pat moved to Greenwood, SC with her family as a young girl. After graduating from Greenwood High School in 1956, she attended Greenwood Commerce College Secretarial School. Shortly thereafter she got a job with Greenwood Mills, where she worked until she retired in the mid 1980's, taking only a couple of years off while she moved to Jefferson City, Missouri in the mid 1960's. After Pat retired, she spent the next 35 years perfecting her golf game and making the most wonderful lifelong friends that she met through golf and St. Mark United Methodist Church, where she was a long-time member.
During her golfing years, both at Star Fort Golf Club and Greenwood Country Club, Pat won numerous tournaments as well as had a few holes in one. The only thing that she loved more than golf was her family, especially her parents, siblings, cousins, and many nieces and nephews, but mostly her husband, Harry, daughter Kristi and granddaughter Chloe.
Pat was predeceased by her parents John C Smith and Thelma Smith, as well as her siblings, Janie Smith Harris, John Horace Smith, Harper Eugene Smith, and Melvin Smith.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Harry Garrett; daughter, Kristi Garrett Mehalso (Jim); granddaughter, Chloe Elizabeth Hatcher; two sisters Shirley Smith McDowell and Elaine Smith Clinkscales; brother-in-law, Fred Clinkscales, sisters-in-law, Carmen "Zory" Smith and Martha Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews that she loved so much.
Our family is so thankful for the caretakers that provided home healthcare, especially Paula with Senior Helpers, The Wesley Commons Memory Care Staff, the entire staff at Self Regional Healthcare, and Wesley Commons skilled nursing facility together with Hospice who provided the most amazing level of compassionate care during the final days of Pat's life.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at Oakbrook Memorial Park with the Rev. Joey Gambrell officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
