Obituary

Pauline Frances Chastain Bennett, 92, formerly of Woodfield's Community of Greenwood, widow of Joe Horace Bennett, died Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Magnolia Manor.

Born "and raised" in Calhoun Falls, she was the daughter of the late Jack Sylvester and Edna Atkins Chastain. Mrs. Bennett graduated from Anderson College School of Nursing in 1944. She was nursing cadet deployed to Memphis Army Hospital during WWII. After marriage and moving to Greenwood she worked at the former Self Memorial Hospital (now Self Regional) as a nurse and later emergency room supervisor until retirement. She was a charter member of Woodfields Baptist Church that she loved and served. She was a member of Woodfields Community Club.

She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Jack Sylvester Bennett, and four brothers, Sherman Chastain, Clyde Chastain, Melvin Chastain, and Lloyd Chastain.

Surviving are her son, Thomas H. Bennett and his wife, Lindy, of Greenwood; her grandson, Thomas H. Bennett, Jr. and his wife, Mary Beth, of Conway, SC; and two great grandsons, Thomas Lee Bennett and Samuel Jacob Bennett both of Conway, SC.

Services be will held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ben Hjalmer and Dr. Bob Miller officiating. Due to a Candlelight service at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, burial will be private.

Honorary escort will be her beloved cousin, Joanne Johnson, Kathy Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Dorn, Jo McCutcheon, and Cathy Green, Reverend Johnny Waller, and those members of Magnolia Manor staff who are able to attend.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the members of the Woodfield community and Woodfields Baptist Church who have been so faithful to her for many years. The family also expresses their sincere thanks to the staff of Magnolia Manor who cared for her during her stay.

In lieu of flowers or food, memorials may be made to Woodfield's Baptist Church Building Fund or Senior Pals, 1708 Marshall Road, Greenwood, SC 29646.
