Obituary

Pearl Walton Ransom, 87, of 426 Morgan Avenue, widow of Hubert R. Ransom, died Sunday, April 12, 2009 at Emerald Gardens. Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Joel W. and Esther Evers Walton. She was employed by Greenwood Mills for more than 40 years and was a member of the Quarter Century Club, and retired from Stanley Home Products, where she served as a representative and manager for 40 years. She was a volunteer with the Self Regional Hospital Auxiliary and Meals on Wheels and was a member of Callie Self Memorial Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Bible Class, taught Sunday School, was an R.A. and Y.W.A. leader and was involved with outreach ministries to the shut-ins of the church. Surviving are two daughters, Jo Owings and her husband, Jon A., of Hodges and Kathy Ransom of Columbia; a son, Brad Hamilton of New Orleans; four grandchildren, Angela Nelson, Barry Hamilton, Bland Hamilton, Jr. and Blake Owings and 12 great grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Esther Hamilton and a son, James Ransom.
