Richard Edward "Pete" Smith, Sr., 83, formerly of Saluda, widow Janie Schumpert Smith, passed away Saturday, August 8, 2020 at Abbeville Nursing Home.

Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Richard Hogan and Lillian Dickerson Smith. Pete was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his son, Richard E. "Ricky" Smith, Jr. (Kelly) of Hineville, GA; sister, Sue Ann Bickley (James Ray) of Prosperity; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; four nieces, Diane Bryan, Sheila Whedbee, Donna Counts, and Rhonda Bickley.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Leagan and a brother, Charles Allen Smith.

The family wants to give a sincere and heartfelt thank you to all the caregivers at Hospice Care of South Carolina and the Abbeville Nursing Home Staff for taking care of Pete.

A private graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Friendship Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery.
