Obituary

Crosby Ray Murray, 75, of Greenwood, widower of Cathy Sheppard Murray, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2025, at his home.

Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Paul and Frances Brown Murray. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, and veteran who lived a life of service, love, and dedication. Ray honorably served in the United States Army, earning multiple awards and honors, including the prestigious Purple Heart. He was discharged at the rank of E-5 Sergeant, a testament to his bravery and leadership. His service to his country reflected the same commitment and courage he demonstrated in every aspect of his life. He retired from Champion Products after working over twenty years and attended Lake View Baptist Church. Even after retiring, he continued to keep busy, taking on various jobs and proving that work is truly in his blood. He loved to stay active, and his enthusiasm for life never stopped. Above all, Ray was a man of strong values who instilled wisdom, love, and perseverance in his children. He shared 39 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Cathy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Terry and Gladys Murray.
Surviving are his children, Kim Murray, Brandy Dale Murrah (Emily) and Bridgette Murray; grandchildren, Austin, Emma Grace (Jared), Katelyn (Andrew). Brayden, Chandler, Nathaniel, Blaire, Belle, and Jan Calvary; and great grandchildren, Jordy, John, Gracie and Emily.

Services will be held at 2pm on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Louie Murray officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Brandy Murray, Brayden Murrah, Nathaniel Murrah, Jared Franco, Tim Gillion, Austin Colson, Jacob Johnson, Chandler Murrah and Shane Stargel. Honorary escort will be Marty Brown, and Dale Murray.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home before the service from 1-2pm.
