Raymond W. Snelling, Sr., 92, of 1102 Saddle Hill Road, widower of Jo Ann Underwood Snelling, died Saturday, February 25, 2017 at HospiceCare of the Piedmont.
Born in Comer, GA, he was a son of the late L.P. "Pop" and Winona Mitchell Snelling. He was formerly employed by Emerald City Laundry for 21 years and later ran multiple businesses. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II, serving on LST 932 and was a member of Mathews United Methodist Church, where he was the teacher of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class.
Surviving are his two daughters, Melinda Snelling, and Janet Pate (Rick); two sons, Chip Snelling (Harriett) and David Snelling (Robin); a sister, Luween Harrison; a brother, Roland Snelling, all of Greenwood; grandchildren, Josh Snelling (Laura), Jessica Justus (Chip), Katie Snelling, Allie Snelling, Megan Pate, and Carly Pate; great grandchildren, Conor Justus, Margot Rey Justus, and expected great grandson, Raymond Maxwell Snelling.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Chris Lollis officiating. Burial, with military rites, will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Roland Snelling, Chip Justus, Todd Dalton, Rick Pate, Josh Snelling, Gerald Brooks, Kellan Mayfield, and Andrew Hall.
Honorary escort will be members of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class and choir.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
