Richard Lukens, 87, of Taylors, beloved husband of Nancy Kirby Lukens, passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at his home.
Born in Decatur, IL, he was a son of the late Benjamin "Benny" and Alma Robbins Lukens. Richard was a man of many talents and passions, known for his love of gardening and his incredible "green thumb." He dedicated his life to caring for his beloved wife Nancy, with whom he shared a beautiful 65-year-long marriage. In his professional life, Richard found fulfillment for 33 years in manufacturing management positions in Albany, GA before transitioning to Superintendent positions at The Winstead Plantation in Thomasville, GA and later Tom's Food Retreat in Hamilton, GA. A member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church, Taylors, SC, Rock Springs Baptist Church in Easley, SC and Sherwood Baptist in Albany, GA. His presence, kindness, and unwavering commitment to his loved ones will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Lukens; a sister, Doris Lukens and oldest brother, Ronald Lukens.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his sons, Jeffrey Lukens (Leigh Ann) and Richard K. Lukens (Margaret); a younger brother, Gerald Lukens; five grandchildren- Joshua, Katie, Rachel, Ryan (Kendal), and Jordan (Danielle); and great grandson, Jude.
A memorial service will be held at 3pm on November 24, 2024, at Harley Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends before the service at the funeral home from 2-3 pm.
