Robert Preston Carwile Jr. 82 of Bluff Road, Greenwood, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning on August 22, 2026.

Born on April 8, 1944, in Abbeville, he was a son of the late Winona Jaynes Carwile and Robert Preston Carwile Sr.

Bob was a professional beautician and successful business owner for most of his adult life. In the early seventies, he coached and lead a female softball team, the “Merchanettes” to championship. He loved the outdoors, be it fishing, hunting, or his favorite, shooting. Bob and his shooting friends traveled many states competing in Sporting Clays Competitions. He and his team entered the SC Crow Hunting Championship four different times, having won each time. One of Bobs many achievements, was breaking 98 out of 100 at the NWTF complex in Edgefield. As the owner and operator of Rocky Knoll, Bob didn’t just run a course, he built a home for the shooting sports community, sharing his passion and sharp eye with anyone who stepped onto the grounds. Bob spent a lifetime proving his skill, firing off countless rounds over the years in a relentless, joy filled obsession with shotguns. Whether he was tracking targets on his own field or waiting on the perfect flight path while dove hunting, Bob was always happiest with a gun in his hand and an open sky overhead.

Surviving is his sister, Sandra Miller and husband Don; brother, Dale Carwile and wife Judy; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends; Pamela Hanks, Deanna Ashley, and Lacy Silvers.

A gathering to celebrate Bob’s life will ne held from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Rocky Knoll Sporting Clays, 104 Milford Dairy Road, Abbeville, SC 29620.

Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Abbeville, with Rocky Knoll members as honorary escort.

To honor the man who never cared much for fancy attire, the family asks everyone attending to dress comfortably and in their favorite camouflage in his honor.
