Roger Dale McDowell, Sr. 79, of Ninety Six, widower of Diane L. McDowell, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2025.
Born on March 20, 1946, in Edgefield, he was a son of the late James Allen McDowell and Bernice Still McDowell Brown. Roger was a proud U.S. Navy veteran and a master electrician who made his mark in the textile industry as the head electrician at Greenwood Mills. He also shared his knowledge and passion for electrical engineering as an instructor at Piedmont Technical College. He also served as a firefighter with the Greenwood Fire Department for seven years
.
Outside of his professional life, Roger attended South Greenwood Pentecostal Holiness Church. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, particularly spending time with his family.
He is survived by his children, Beth O'Brien (Marty) of Greenwood, Roger McDowell, Jr. of Simpsonville, and Melissa Eisenzimmer (John) of Ninety Six; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and multiple extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Billy, and Clyde McDowell.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
A graveside service, with military honors, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday at Oakbrook Memorial Park with the Rev. Dennis Reynolds officiating.
