Ronnie "Runt" Hamilton Barnes, 82, of Greenwood, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2025.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Oscar and Marian Ruby Gregory Barnes. Runt was a graduate of Greenwood High Class of 1961 and served in the SC National Guard. He retired from Greenwood Mills Mathews Plant after working 30 years and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. Runt enjoyed socializing with his friends at Starnes and spent much of his time cherishing moments with his family and friends. He enjoyed running the score board for American Legion Post 20 and was an avid fan of the New York Yankee's and Clemson Tigers, where he held season tickets and attended every football, baseball and basketball game he could. His enthusiasm for sports was matched only by his love for music, particularly Elvis Presley, whose records he cherished in an impressive collection of 45s. Runt was a member of Panola United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Johnny, Jerry, Ricky, Billy Ray and Royce Barnes.
Surviving are his son, Scotty Barnes (Crystal); sisters, Diane Peppers (Phil), Debbie Turner and Joyce Disadere; grandchildren, Briana Collins, Hunter Barnes and Addison Barnes; along with several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 1pm on Wednesday at Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Brian Brock officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be his nephews.
The family will receive friends before the service from 12-1pm at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to St Jude Children's Hospital or to the South Carolina Highway Department.
