Rosa Thomason Coker, 89, of Hodges, widow of William Norman Coker, passed away Monday, January 22, 2024 at Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont.
Born in Laurens, she was a daughter of the late Willie Richard Thomason and Bertha Marie Woods Thomason. Rosa was one of ten children in her large loving family. She was brought up to always put God first and worship the Lord with all her heart. When she was young, she would pick cotton if she wasn't in school. She graduated from Gray Court Owen in 1948. Rosa was a loving mother and grandmother and would do anything for her family. She loved tomato sandwiches, Dukes mayonnaise, and playing cards. Her smile was infectious and her loyalty of caring for her family was unwavering.
She was a member of Dails Methodist Church in Gary Court.
She is survived by her son, Whitnor Pennington; stepchildren, Norman Coker, Johnny Coker, and Diane Coker; sister, Betty Thomason; grandchildren, Melissa Sergent (Thomas), Patricia McClain (Christy), Rocky Pennington, Tina Merritt, and Paula Brookshire; and great grandchildren, Shianne, Michael, Skyler, Matthew, Coley, Cailin, Keely, Dale, O'rion, Luke, Dakota, and Nikael.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by children, Barabara Pennington and Sharon Brookshire; sons-in-law, Richard Taylor and Ron Brookshire; sisters, Francis Thomason and Martha Kiker; and brothers, Jack Thomason, Jimmy Thomason, Jerry Thomason, Joe Thomason, Bill Thomason, and Johnny Thomason.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Byron Woods officiating.
The family will receive friends before the service from 4:00-5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
