Rosalene "Rose" Hancock Kemp, 82 years-old of Greenwood, SC previously of Athens, GA passed away peacefully, Saturday June 9, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Rose was born in Albany, GA on November 11, 1941. She graduated from Albany High School in 1960. She raised two beautiful daughters in the Athens GA area and was successful professionally in all endeavors.
Linda Ellis' poem "The Dash" fully embodies Rose's philosophy of life. She therefore enjoyed a fruitful, fulfilling, and fun life. Her strong faith in God and positive attitude empowered her recently to beat Pancreatic cancer. Her greatest love was enjoying wonderful times with family and friends. She was an enthusiastic conservative and a fan of Donald Trump but could chat with anyone regardless of their views. She loved the beach and fishing, especially deep-sea fishing. She would always say "If you are lucky enough to be at the beach, you are lucky enough!" She was an avid Georgia Bulldog football fan and
cheered them on to three National Championships. Rose had a "Movie Star Smile," which lit up the world, and a laugh to go along with it. She appreciated a good joke (even if a little off color). She could tell a delightful story, particularly about childhood adventures in Acree, GA and Albany, GA with siblings, cousins, and friends. The Patio Drive-In was a frequent gathering spot for many youthful adventures.
Survived by her two daughters and sons-in-laws, Amanda "Mandy" McDonald and Al Scallan of Baton Rouge, LA., Juli McDonald and Greg Gurley of Greenwood, SC.; adored grandchildren, Joseph and Jared Scallan, Alex and Griffen Gurley; brother, Fred Hancock; sister, Patricia "Pat" Winderweedle.
She was preceded in death by her precious mother, Lonnie Mae Hancock; and father, Henry Anderson Hancock; former spouse and father of her children, Kirk Howard McDonald; husband and love of her life, William "Bill" L. Kemp II; sister, Joyce A. Hancock.
She is fondly remembered by relatives and friends who knew her to be a wonderful daughter, sister, cousin, wife, mom, mother-in-law, aunt, and grandma.
A visitation and celebration of Rose's extraordinary life and visitation will be in early July 2024, with the exact location and date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions in the name of Rose Hancock Kemp to: Hospice & Palliative Care of the Piedmont, 408 West Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646 or online @hospicepiedmont.org.
