Obituary

Roy Woody Johnson, Jr. of 1110 Marshall Rd, Greenwood, SC (Wesley Commons) joined his wife with Jesus on Thursday, September 9th in the early morning hours. Roy was born April 5th 1930 in Memphis, Tenn. The oldest of 3 children, he graduated from Georgia Tech in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. Immediately after graduation he reported to Ft. Bragg NC where he served as the Officer in Charge of the Dining Facility. In 1953 he was married to the former Barbara (Bobby) McKain of Florence, SC and Atlanta, GA. He completed his tour of service in Edgewood, MD where he worked with the Army Chemical Corp. After completing his military service he was immediately hired by the Trane Co. where he started a long career specializing in sales of Heating and Air Conditioning systems. He was assigned to the St. Louis office and would call Kirkwood his home for the next 54 years. Roy was an Eagle Scout and Boy Scout Leader, member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, played softball for the 200s in Kirkwood for more than 25 years, and a member of the Kirkwood United Methodist Church. He loved the outdoors, especially camping, canoeing, and bird watching. He is survived by his children Lynn Boyd and son-in-law Jeff of Cross Hill, SC and Mike Johnson and daughter-in-law Jan of Austin, TX. as well as grandchildren Nichole, Michael, Miguel and Sonalie. He is also survived by his sister Paula and brother in-law Herbert Camp of Denver, Co and brother, Dr. R Joseph Johnson, sister-in-law Margaret (Peg) of Maryville, Tenn. Roy was also a proud step-grandparent, uncle, cousin, neighbor, and friend. He always felt blessed to have had wonderful neighbors on Pamela Lane in Kirkwood, Mo. and was equally blessed to have made many new friends at Wesley Commons in Greenwood, SC. His cheerful and comical personality made him a joy to be around. He will be missed by all those he loved so dearly. '
