Royce Irvin McDowell, 89, went to his heavenly home on Sunday, October 10, 2010. Royce was born in Greenwood, SC on April 4, 1921 and was a son of the late Walter McDowell and Mae Parkman McDowell. He was married to Annie Myrtle Attaway McDowell for 67 years. Donnie (Rhonda) McDowell, Debbie McDowell, Scott (Allyson) McDowell, Blair (Jeb) McDowell Patterson, Bennett McDowell and Noah McDowell are thankful for the Godly influence and cherished memories of time with their father, grandfather and great grandfather. Royce was preceded in death by a son, five sisters and five brothers. Royce loved the Lord and was a member of Temple Baptist Church. He served as deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, Brotherhood Director, youth leader and on the Building and Grounds Committee. He also served in leadership roles in the Abbeville Baptist Association (now Lakelands Baptist Association). He was in the Army 1942-45 and received the World War II Victory Medal, Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Royce was a member of American Legion Post 120 for 45 years where he served as chaplain and commander. He was a 60 year member of Eureka Masonic Lodge #47. He worked for Greenwood Mills, Adams Plant, for 40 years and was a member of the Quarter Century Club.
