Rufus Day, 87, formerly of 1224 Ninety Six Highway, widow of Sarah Smith Day, passed away on Friday, April 6, 2012 at Petra Health and Rehab of McCormick. Born in Greenwood, he was the son of the late Willie and Grace Cheek Day. Rufus was a U. S. Navy Veteran of WWII. He retired from Greenwood Mills- Durst Plant where he was in the Quarter Century Club and was of the Church of God faith. He was twice married, first to the late Polly Thacker Day, Surviving are a daughter, Patricia D. Johnson and her husband Edgar of Greenwood; two step children, Woodrow Smith of Greenwood and Judy Black of KY; a sister, Martha Cox of Greenwood; a brother, James �Pete� Day; three grandchildren, Kathy (Chris) Willis of Waterloo, Dana (Vince) Baker of Hodges and Phillip (Christi) Johnson of Irmo; six great grandchildren, Patrick Craven, Shanna Willis, Benji Baker, Caleb Baker, Logan Johnson and Morgan Johnson; a great-great grandson, Will Baker; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Sarah Smith and Mary Day; and five brothers, Clark �Buck� Day, Bill Day, Clyde Day, Howard Day and John Earl Day.
