Obituary

Ruth Elizabeth Lott Medley of 4422 Highway 246 North, Hodges, entered the second phase of her Christ-given eternal life at 11:54 AM, Monday December 1, 2014 and is anticipating the resurrection of the dead promised by that same Christ. Ruth was the wife of the Rev. Mr. James D. Medley for sixty-eight plus years. She was born the fourth daughter of the late John C. and Effie Carson Lott of Chappells, SC on August 19, 1924. She is survived, in addition to her husband, by three sons, John Austin and Donald Earl Medley of Hodges and James Harold Medley and his wife, Susan, of Fort Valley, VA. She savored the love of grandchildren; Thomas Lewis and Melissa Thompson, Sarah Elizabeth Medley and Theodore Matson, and Amelia Medley and Dustin Portzline. One day after her eighty-ninth birthday she became the great-grandmother of Emmeline Medley Matson. She is also survived by a sister, Sue Lott of Hodges. She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, Ramsom Earl Lott, Annie Lou Lott, Jessie Mae Lott Stone Harmon, and John Harold Lott, Sr. Ruth was a graduate of Lander College (1945) and did graduate study at Spalding College in Louisville, KY and the University of South Carolina. For forty plus years she shared her husbands ministry in Kentucky and South Carolina. She retired from a career of teaching in South Carolina and serving as an elementary school principal/teacher in Kentucky. As a member of Greenwood's Main Street United Methodist Church she directed the shut-in ministry of the Methodist Women for several years. Ruth was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing her skills with younger members of her garden club. In lieu of flowers memorials may made in her honor to Main Street United Methodist Church, 211 North Main Street, Greenwood, SC 29649. '
