Ruth Coleman Ellerbe, 78, died Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at NHC Healthcare.

Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Furman Burton and Lovie Flanagan Coleman.

Ruthie retired from SC Vocational Rehabilitation after a rewarding career. Her passion for helping others shone brightly through her role as the former Director of Early Intervention at the Emerald Center.

Beyond her career, Ruthie had an incredible gift for music. She was an amazing piano player and shared her love of music by teaching others how to play. Ruthie also cherished her time spent traveling, especially to the mountains and the beach, and loved her time living on the lake.

Ruthie was raised at First Baptist Church of Greenwood. She had a heart of gold, always ready to lend a helping hand and support those in need.

She is survived by her son, Grainger Coleman "Gray" Hines; two grandsons, who affectionately referred to her as Babu, Grayson Coleman Hines and Andrew Sebastian Hines; and nephews, Jay Self and Furman Self (Kay).

She was preceded in death by her sister, Linda C. Self; her niece, Elizabeth Self Wheeler and special friend, Lee McDowell.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
