Rev. Sam Goodman Smith, Jr., 65, of 219 Eddy Road, husband of Patricia Giles Smith, passed away on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at his home. Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Sam G. Smith, Sr. and Tempie Ouzts Smith. Sam was a U. S. Navy veteran and received his GED in March of 2010. He was the Associate Pastor and Treasurer of Ninety Six Church of God of Prophecy and a former Pastor of Newberry Church of God of Prophecy. Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are four children; Tempie (Roger) Gilmer of Abbeville, Tricia (Roy) Pollard, Lee (Ken) Stargel and Frances �Sam� (Johnny) Gault, all of Ninety Six; a sister, Essie (Harold) Francis of Ninety Six; grandchildren, Cristy Carter, Shane Stargel, Brittany Stargel, Adam Pollard, Kayla Gilmer, Joshua Pollard, K.J Stargel, Jacob Gilmer, Braedon Gilmer; and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Walter �Buck� Smith and by a sister, Mary Wynn. Pallbearers will be Roger Gilmer, Roy Pollard, III, Ken Stargel, Johnny Gault, Shane Stargel, Adam Pollard, Joshua Pollard, K. J. Stargel and Ronnie Wynn.
