Samuel "Sammy" F. McCravy, 72, of 1015 Sweetwater Road, husband of Margaret Ellen Lanford McCravy, died Monday, July 17, 2017 at the Hospice House.
Born in Durham, NC, he was the son of the late Hugh D. "Rex" and Ruth Etta Hallman McCravy. He was retired from Solutia, was a Mason and a charter member of Emerald Baptist Church, where he formerly served as choir director. Sammy loved dirt track racing, go cart racing, hunting, fishing, and golf. He shared his talent of singing with local nursing homes, churches, and at Ashley Place.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are his children, Lynn Davis (Kent) of Salem, VA, Lisa Addison (Ronnie) of Abbeville, Marion Nichols (Jerry Underwood) of Mauldin, Matt McCravy (Missie), Lee Alexander, both of Greenwood, and Layne Alexander (Nancy) of Kirksey; nine grandchildren, Taylor Davis, Kent Davis, Jr, Jason Addison, Charlie Addison, Seth McCravy, Jacob McCravy, Weston McCravy, Samantha Alexander, and Alayna Alexander; six great grandchildren, Reid Cook, Kalysta Addison, Autumn Addison, Tucker Addison, Lexi Addison, and Asher Addison; a great grandson expected in December; cousin Dick Shaffer (Gwen) of Lexington, and their children, Sabra Corley and Cynthia Shaffer.
Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Tucker officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jason and Charlie Addison, Seth, Jacob, and Weston McCravy, and Jerry Underwood.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
