Samuel Corey "Sam" Whatley, 47, of Jacksonville, FL and Beaufort, SC, died Wednesday, February 1, 2017 in Beaufort.
Born in Jacksonville Beach, FL, he was a son of Melva Strom Joiner and the late James W. Whatley, Jr. He was a 1992 graduate of Clemson University, was employed by Spring Island Golf Club, Beaufort and was formerly employed with Southern Palmetto Landscaping. Sam volunteered with the City Rescue Mission in Jacksonville and attended Christ Church.
Surviving is his daughter, Landis Whatley of Beaufort; his mother and stepfather, Melva and David Joiner, of Jacksonville; a brother, Russell Whatley (Michelle) of St. Johns, FL; nephew and niece, Colin and Lauren Whatley; stepdaughter, Murray Flowers of Beaufort; aunts, Martha Huey of Seneca, SC, Sudie Stansell of Greenville, SC and Lucy Ruple of West Columbia, SC; many cousins and lifelong friend since kindergarten, Brandon "Scooter" Thomas of Denver, CO.
He was preceded in death by his uncle, James Strom.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at McCormick First Baptist Church, McCormick, SC, with the Rev. Michael Allen officiating. Burial will be in Overbrook Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Brad Wilson, Greg Seigler, John Huey, Jr., Andy Stansell, Trey Ruple, Robbie Ruple, Guy Wynn and Bud Martin.
The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
