Samuel Thomas "Tom" Coates, Jr. 52, of Greenwood, passed away Sunday, February 2nd, 2025, at his home.

Born in Greenwood, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Samuel Thomas Coates, Sr. and Rebecca Long Farmer. Tom worked as a Control Room Operator at Ascend for many years. He loved watching NASCAR races, fishing, and pulling for the Carolina Gamecocks. He was a homebody and enjoyed cooking for his family. Tom was a sentimental man with a big heart, and he will be missed by all who knew him.

Along with his mother, Tom is survived by a son, Matthew Coates (Natalie) of Saluda; daughters, Summer Whittle (Andrew) of Saluda, and Andrea Coates (Noelia) of Greenwood; sisters, Heather Smith of Moore, Bambi Coates of Washington DC, Tiffani McGuire (Brandon) of Abbeville, Misti Singleton of Tacoma, Washington, and Amanda Boyd (Jody) of Greenwood; a brother, Ted Mendoza (Suhley) of Tacoma, Washington; grandchildren, Kyng, Nevaeh and Sunnie; step-father, Keith Singleton of Greenwood; 8 nieces and 3 nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by grandparents, James and Janelle K. Long and John and Catherine Coates.

A memorial service will be held at Harley Funeral Home on February 8, 2025, at 1 PM. The family will receive friends an hour before the service.
