Obituary

Sandra Jean Pope Johnson, 85, of Greenwood, passed away Sunday, December 28, 2025.

Born on August 30, 1940, in Greenwood, she was the daughter of the late DeWitt Albert Pope and Nora Goss Pope. Sandra dedicated her career to the furniture sales industry, most notably as an employee of Rhodes Furniture in Greenville and Greenwood Mattress Factory. She was known for her warmth and generosity, always looking out for those around her. Her passion for life was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed playing bingo, taking cruises, and visiting casinos, where she loved the thrill of the game. She also relished the time spent playing games on her iPad. A devoted member of South Main Street Baptist Church, Sandra attended services regularly until her health began to decline. She cherished the visits from her church friends, particularly during their Thursday dinners, and remained connected to her faith by watching Pastor Frost from home.

She was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Lee Johnson, Jr. and a grandson-in-law, Rodney Redd.

Surviving are her twin children, Nora Bell (Jeff) of Eatonton, GA and Dr. Richard Johnson (Kelli) of Lumberton, NC; her beloved dog, Phoebe; grandchildren, Kara Johnson Sprouse (Butler), Jamie Redd, Samantha Joiner (Montie), Crystal Thrift (Trey), Mitchell Bell (Samantha), Jeffrey Bell, Jr., Madison Wales (Dean), Lynsey Hoppes (Peyton) and Erin Johnson; twenty-two great grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Cryptside services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with the Dr. Toby Frost officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice House, 408 West Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, SC or to South Main Baptist Church, PO Box 1093, Greenwood, SC 29648.
