Obituary

Shelby Jean Balchin Boozer, 83, of Chappells, widow of Nicholas E. Boozer, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2024 at her home.

Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Oscar Balchin and Sally Mae Leopard Balchin. She was a member of Hopewell Congregational Holiness Church.

In her younger years, Shelby worked as a skilled hairdresser before dedicating 25 years of her life as a seamstress at Knights. Her talent and dedication reflected in her involved crochet work and the countless baby blankets she lovingly crafted for friends and family. Shelby was famous for her delicious fruit cakes and had a knack for solving word puzzles.

A devoted mother and grandmother, Shelby's nurturing spirit embodied warmth and unconditional love. Shelby was known for her work ethic, always striving to provide for her family and ensuring their happiness came first.

Family and friends remember Shelby as a compassionate and loving soul who found joy in the simple moments of life. Her fondness for her grand fur babies added an extra sparkle to her days.
She is survived by her children, Judy Werts (Bruce), Nancy Herlong, and Patrick Boozer (Dawn); grandchildren, Brent Werts (Mandi), Thomas Ford (Shaunna), Joshua Ford, Cody Ford (Megan), Christian Ford, Brittany Leopard (Bobby), and Chad Douglas (Mattie); and great grandchildren, Presley Leopard, Preston Leopard, Isabelle Ford, and Colton Ford.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Svenningsen.
