Obituary

Shirley Virginia Cox Sipe, 89, of Greenwood, widow of Charles "Booty" Sipe, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at her home.

Born on February 14, 1937, in Greenville, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Judge Cox and Minnie Carver Timmerman. Shirley devoted many years of her professional career to Monsanto before retiring, only to answer the call of service once again by working as a secretary at Metal Fabricators. Throughout her life, Shirley balanced work with passions that brought joy to her and those close to her. She was deeply connected to her faith as a steadfast member of Harris Baptist Church, where her gentle spirit and warm heart were well known. A lover of nature and beauty, Shirley found great happiness planting flowers and nurturing her garden, creating a peaceful sanctuary that mirrored her serene soul. She cherished spending time shopping and was an avid viewer of QVC, finding delight in the simple pleasures of life. Her greatest joy, however, was her family, especially her grandchildren who were the center of her world.

She was preceded in death by her son, Charles A. "Tony" Sipe.

Surviving are her daughter, Marianne Goodman; daughter-in-law, Ann Sipe; grandchildren: John Paul Goodman, III, (Jessica), Kaitlyn Goodman, Sam Stevenson, and Meg Hembree (Ray); great-grandchildren: Kiersten Goodman, Jaxson Goodman, and Blaine Stevenson; and her faithful chiweenie, Fancy.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Monday at Harris Baptist Church. Entombment will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the church before the service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
