Emil Julius �Sonny� Svenningsen, Jr., 73, of 903 Bertram Court, Augusta, GA and formerly of Greenwood, husband of Barbara Balchin Svenningsen, died Monday, June 7, 2010 at Hospice House, Greenwood, SC. Born in Waltham, MA, he was a son of the late Emil Julius, Sr. and Eva Marie Comeau Svenningsen. He managed the body shop at Johnson Motors, Cadillac, for many years until he opened Sonny�s Body Shop, where he worked until his retirement in 2004. He did auto body work in the Greenwood area for more than forty year. Sonny served on the Advisory Board for the Auto Body Repair Class at the Greenwood Career Center and was involved in many community activities. He was a member of Travis Lodge A.F.M., Saluda and Hopewell Congregational Holiness Church, Saluda. Surviving is his wife of 51 years; a daughter, Marie S. Barrett and her husband, Ralph, of Ware Shoals; a son, Tommy Svenningsen and his fianc�, Linda Davis Downing, of Waterloo; a sister, Nellie Lopez of Newport Richey, FL; three grandchildren, Dana Marie Payne, Tommy Svenningsen, Jr. and his wife, Krystal, and Sunnie Leigh�Anna Grainger-Svenningsen; five great granddaughters and a great grandson.
