Obituary

Stanley F. Miller, 93, of 1110 Marshall Road, widower of Ruth Katherine Martin Miller, died Thursday, October 27, 2011 at Hospice House. Born in Brooklyn, NY on July 29, 1918, he was a son of the late William and Rose Haugh Miller. He attended Woodmere High School, the College of Insurance, the Bible Institute of New York and the New York Illustrating Studios. Stan was employed for 43 years by the Home Insurance Company, but his passion was art. He worked mainly in oil and water color and drew a comic strip, "Chubby," for the Long Island Daily Press. He served in the US Army from 1941 to 1945. On July 23, 1943, he married Ruth, who died in 2008. Stan and Ruth lived for many years in Valley Stream, NY, before moving to Wesley Commons in 1990. They were members of Main Street United Methodist Church. Stan is survived by his daughter, Pastor Lori Miller and her husband, Stan's "son," the Rev. Dr. John Halbrook, of Pound Ridge, NY; two grandsons, Greg Halbrook of Pound Ridge and Jaan Paul Halbrook and his wife, Samantha, of Walkill, NY and a great grandson, Alex. Stan and his family extend thanks to Hospice House, Greenwood, for the extraordinary care extended to both Stan and Ruth and to the members of the Genesis to Revelation Sunday School Class at Main Street, and especially to Carolyn Thomes for her years of faithful visiting. We celebrate Stan's life, but celebrate even more that he has gone home to Jesus.
