Obituary

Stephen Errol Hayes, 83, of Chappels, passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at his residence.

Born in Cass County, MI, he was a son of the late Victor Wilson Hayes and Pansy L. Springsteen Hayes. Stephen was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 103 and a life member of VFW Post 8131. Stephen was a self-employed contractor and attended Kinards United Methodist Church. During his free time, he was a Civil War reenactor and enjoyed volunteering at the Greenwood Museum and the Veterans Museum.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Jonathan Hayes.

Surviving are a brother, Oliver Hayes of Hendersonville, NC; three sisters, Rosemary Brown (John) of Chappells, Laura Gladson (Jerry) of Kennesaw, GA and Ruth Wilkinson (Donald) of Ninety Six; a sister-in-law, Jeanette Hayes of Greenwood along with several nieces and nephews.

Stephen's wishes were to be donated to science for educational study.

A memorial service will be held at 3 pm on Sunday at Hall of Heroes, Military Museum, Greenwood Veterans Center, with the Dr. Jerry Gladson and Rev. Bobby Gilbert officiating.

The family will receive friends at Harley Funeral Home on Saturday from 6-8 pm.
