Susan K. Praytor, 76, of 204 Holiday Road, McCormick formerly of Asheville, NC died January 3, 2024, after lung complications due to advanced Multiple Sclerosis.
Susan was the adopted daughter of the late Robert Young Praytor and Chloe Mae Keel Praytor, pioneer families of Buncombe and Henderson counties, along with her brother, Robert Young Praytor, Jr. of Tennessee.
She is survived by her friends and the staff of McCormick Post Acute Nursing Home who were like family.
Susan served multiple terms of service in the United States Navy. She enlisted at the early age of 21 and was stationed in California where she graduated from the military Hospital Corps School and served as nurse. Susan went on to re-enlist with the Navy and was stationed in Pearl Harbor, HI where she served in the intelligence branch. She served the United States Navy for 12 years. She settled in South Carolina and worked as a substitute teacher in Laurens County School District 55 until she retired and was a resident of McCormick Post Acute Nursing Home for the last 14 years.
Her Navy credentials will be displayed at The Veterans Hall of Heroes in Greenwood, SC.
Private services will be held and inurnment will be at M. J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson, SC on January 24, 2024.
