Talmadge Russell Brookshire

Sep 25, 1932 — Jun 19, 2026

Greenwood

Talmadge Russell Brookshire, 93, of Greenwood, widower of Mary Jane Godfrey Brookshire, passed away Friday, June 19, 2026 at his home.

Born on September 25, 1932 on a vegetable farm in Fayetteville, Georgia, he was a son of the late John Henry Brookshire and Ravannie Morgan Brookshire. Talmadge learned the value of a honest day's labor at an early age. His roots on the farm shaped the man he would become, someone who wasn’t afraid of calluses on his hands or dirt on his boots.

Talmadge was a man of remarkable dedication and work ethic. He spent 50 incredible years and one day as a valued employee at Satterfield Construction Company, where his loyalty and expertise earned him the deep respect of his colleagues and peers. He also brought his work ethic to the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT). Throughout his career, he was widely regarded as a well-respected man who could always be counted on.

Talmadge’s favorite place to be was outdoors. He loved doing yard work, keeping a beautiful garden, and tinkering with his lawnmower in his spare time.

A  member of the Durst Avenue Church of God, Talmadge brought joy wherever he went. He was always laughing and joking, and his bright spirit could lift anyone's mood. Above all, he loved his family fiercely and cherished every moment spent with them.

He is survived by his daughters, Elaine Brookshire and Barbara Register; sisters, Linda Faye Morris (Skip), Netty Ruth Campbell, and Mary Ann Bradford; grandchildren, Steven Leady (Mindy), Nicole Pruiksma (Steven), Stephanie Kettner, T.J. Pounds (Carrie), Summer Wood (Woody), Russell Lee Brookshire; and great grandchildren, Carmen, Landon, Abigail, Addison, Austin, Lily, Aubree, Carter, Gracelyn, and Eli.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, John Russell Brookshire and Bobby Pounds; sisters, Thelma Still, Martha Nell Carnes, and Mildred Mitchum;  brothers, Jonny Brookshire and Ferrell Brookshire; and a grandson, Jonathan Brookshire.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Ouzts officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

His laughter will be deeply missed, but the seeds of love, humor, and dedication he planted in the hearts of his family and friends will continue to grow for generations to come.

Talmadge Brookshire passed away leaving behind a legacy of hard work, laughter, and deep love for his family.
