Obituary

Lucious Talmadge Tate, 90, of 1020 Redbud Lane, Ninety Six, widower of Nell Moore Wood Tate, died Friday, July 27, 2018 at Hospice House.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Paul Talmadge Tate and Lucy Ann Brown Tate. Talmadge was a farmer with JJ. Griffin Farm, a member of Woodmen of the World #412 and in the Phoenix Community Club. He served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and was a Purple Heart recipient. In November 2017 he was inducted in the local Hall of Heroes. Talmadge was a faithful member of First Mt. Moriah Baptist Church where he was in the Ready Sunday School class, taught Sunday school, a Discipleship Director, assistant janitor and traveled to Kentucky on two occasions for mission trips.

He was twice married first to the late Rebecca Conwell Whitt Tate and was preceded in death by his siblings: Inez Dyar, Mattie Elizabeth Stamps, Clarence A. Tate, Clayton P. Tate and William Thomas Tate.

Surviving are his children, Gail Allison (Keith) of the home, Ronnie Whitt (MaryAnn), Janice Shaw (Terry), both of Greenwood and Frank Whitt (Karen) of Ninety Six; a stepdaughter, Glenda Wood Bundrick of Newberry; a sister, Pauline Cooner (Robert) of Blountstown, FL; eleven grandchildren, David, Rebecca, Wes, Kayla, Shannon, Michelle, Michael Wayne, Amy, Heather, Michelle B. and Leitha; eleven great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2pm on Sunday at Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Zack Little officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in First Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be C Brown, Danny Polatty, Jeff Griffin, Tony Dahl, John Pruitt and Patrick Griswald.

Honorary pallbearers will be James Bodie, Mike Latham, Ricky Clark, Don Rushton and the members of the Ready Sunday School Class.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 6-8 pm.
Memorials may be made to a charity of ones choice.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Yen and staff, Dr. Bartz and staff and everyone at HospiceCare of the Piedmont for all the care given to Talmadge.
