Thomas Terry Adkins, Jr., 77, of Chinquapin, husband of Kit Gardner Adkins, died Thursday, November 23, 2023 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Marietta, SC, he was a son of the late Thomas Terry Adkins, Sr. and Rachel Knight Adkins. Terry was a 1964 graduate of Slater-Marietta High School, where he was valedictorian of his class. He was an outstanding basketball player, playing on two high school state championship teams and was voted most valuable player the last two years of high school. He went on to play four years at Erskine College, where he was most valuable player his senior year, graduating in 1968.
Terry had a career in banking, serving as Executive Vice President and Senior Loan Officer with Greenwood Capital Bank. He helped organize and train tax aide volunteers for the AARP tax service for many years. He was a former member of the Greenwood Sertoma Club and the Greenwood Country Club, where he enjoyed playing golf.
He was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church.
Terry is survived by his wife, Kit; his son, Thomas Terry "Tom" Adkins, III (Sara); his grandchildren, Lily, Ella, Caroline, Maggie and Lucas; his brother, Edward Scott Adkins (Brenda); sister-in-law, Suzy Gardner Farrar and her daughter, Willa Kate Farrar; niece, Jenna Ferrer (Jon), nephew, Jason Adkins and great nephew, Banks Ferrer.
Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Main Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Keck officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Ninety Six.
The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
