Thomas Leonard Britt, Jr., 98, of Greenwood, widower of Alice Madge Pyles Britt, passed away Friday, February 16, 2024, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in McCormick, he was the son of the late Thomas L. Britt, Sr. and Martha Estelle Palmer Britt. He retired from Monsanto after twenty-five years and was a US Navy veteran, where he served during WWII on the USS Torrance. Thomas was a dedicated, wonderful, loving husband and father, who always put his family first. He loved going to the mountains, everything about trains, including riding them, his church and church family, and above all else he loved the Lord. He was a lifelong member of Buffalo Baptist Church, where he was a deacon. Thomas was also very active with his military friends throughout his life. He was the last surviving member of his unit.
He is survived by his children, Martha Britt, Mona Timmons (Wayne), Becky King (Tony), and Victor Britt (Whitney); fifteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and his home health caregiver, Shirley Lewis, who cared for him deeply.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Buffalo Baptist Church in McCormick with the Rev. Marty Wiles officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service.
