Obituary

Thurman Herschel Stevenson, Jr., 87, of 117 Wilson Way, Piedmont, widower of Doris Hammett Stevenson, died Wednesday, January 20, 2010. Born in Chester, he was a son of the late Thurman Herschel Stevenson, Sr. and Della Keasler Stevenson. He worked in the radio and television industry, monitoring the transmission site of the Voice of America out of Greenville, NC, and working with WTVJ in Miami, FL, WFCB in Greenville, SC and WGSW Radio in Greenwood. He was an airplane mechanic in the US Navy during World War II, was a member of the Moose Lodge in Greenville, NC and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He was twice married, first to the late Janelle Russell Stevenson. Surviving are his daughter, Cheryl Meeks of Piedmont; his son, Michael Scott Stevenson of Greenville; his sister, Dena Stevenson Stalnaker of Greenwood; stepchildren, Joe Hammett of Greenwood and Jenny Adams of Columbia; three grandchildren, April Southerland of Easley, Eric Davenport of Piedmont and Blake Stevenson of the US Navy; three great grandchildren, Anthony Rogers and Kristin Rogers, both of Easley and Courtney Davenport of Piedmont and two step grandchildren, Ross Hammett and Lucy Adams.
