Matthew T. "Toby" White, Jr., 86, of Wesley Commons Retirement Community, husband of Helen Huff Henderson White, died Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Hospice House.

Born in Topeka, KS, he was a son of the late Matthew T. and Erma Rhea Reed White. His family members were early American settlers, descending from Ireland in 1767 when John and Ann Garner White received a charter of land and settled in the Chester, SC area. Some of that property is still owned by some of Toby's family members today.

Toby was a proud graduate of Kansas State University. He was a chemical engineer, working for several different companies, including Monsanto. He was a faithful member of Main Street United Methodist Church and the Bible Class. He and Helen were always active in the churches they attended everywhere that they lived.

Toby is survived by his wife; his daughters, Ginger White of Charlotte, NC and Jeanne White of Hawaii; and three grand dogs, Merry, Molly and Leela.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday in Asbury Hall at Wesley Commons with the Rev. Kelvin Hinson officiating.
