Tonya Counts Hodges, 52, wife of Jason Hodges, died Friday, June 7, 2019 at Hospice House.

Born in Greenwood, she was the daughter of the late Jerry Riser Counts and Nona Sylvia Thompson. She received her A.D.N. from Piedmont Technical College and then returned to school and received her B.S.N. from Lander University. After being a nurse of all facets, she finally settled on school nursing, where she worked at Merrywood Elementary School and was known to all as "Nurse Tonya."

Surviving are her husband Jason and her son, Riser Counts Hodges, both of the home; her sister, Deeya Cockrell Harvley of Abbeville; brothers, Manning Counts (Elizabeth), Jason Counts and Hunter Counts, all of Hodges, Jonathan "Chip" Cockrell and William Elbert "Skip" Cockrell, Jr., both of Greenwood; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Tonya's life will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Valerie Mireb officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Hodges, Rusty Harvley, David Counts, Michael Counts, Jason Calvert and Adam Creswell.

Honorary escort will be the school nurses of Greenwood School District 50, along with the staff of Merrywood Elementary School.

We would also like to say a special "thank you" to Linda Cansler, Tonya's aunt, second mom and spiritual advisor. Also special thanks to Lori and the team at Hospice.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
