Vernon Franklin �Candyman� Mundy, 80, of 1016 Mount Moriah Road, husband of Reba Nell Adams Mundy, died Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at his home. Born in Abbeville, he was the son of the late Dave and Leila Hammonds Mundy. Vernon worked at Monsanto and retired from Greenwood Mills Mathews Plant. Mr. Mundy served in the S C National Guard for 23 years. He was a member and deacon of Harris Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Master�s Disciples Sunday School Class and was very active with the youth ministries, not only at Harris, but several other churches as well. He was a teacher, R. A. Leader, songwriter, poet, singer and mentor. His involvement with the children earned him the nickname, �The Candyman� and he never met a stranger. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Marvin Mundy and Jim Mundy. Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are two sons, James Mundy and Stanley Mundy, both of Greenwood; a sister, Betty Kinard of Abbeville; a brother, Marion Mundy and his wife, Sara; two granddaughters, Michelle Lund and Jennifer Bratcher, both of Greenwood; four great grandchildren, Jeremy and Jordan Lund and Mason and Morgan Bratcher; and 20 nieces and nephews. Honorary escort will be members of the Abbeville National Guard; Andrew Cook, Raymond White, Bobby and Lynn Martin and the members of the Master�s Disciples Sunday School Class of Harris Baptist Church.
