Walter Lawrence Martin, 84, formerly of 206 Pinehurst Drive, husband of Edna Mae Brown Martin, died Friday, April 13, 2018 at Abbeville Nursing Home.

Born in Ninety Six, he was the son of the late Claude Gambrell Martin and Florence Lankford Martin. Walter was formerly employed with Greenwood Mills and Greenwood School District 50 maintenance at Woodfields Elementary School where he was affectionately known as "Mr. Buddy". He was a charter member of Fraser Presbyterian Church.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and was preceded in death by four sisters; five brothers; a daughter, Sheryl Bodie; and a granddaughter, Laura Culbreath.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Vonnie Maxwell and her husband, Steve, of Abbeville; a son-in-law, Jimmy Bodie of Saluda; six grandchildren; and eighteen great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2pm on Sunday at Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rick Hendricks officiating. Private burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.

The family has requested that flowers be omitted and memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital www.stjude.org or to Greenwood Humane Society, PO Box 49776, Greenwood, SC 29649.

The family would like to thank the staff of Abbeville Nursing home for the love and kindness shown to Mr. Martin.

The family is at the home of his granddaughter, Polly Readett, 215 Curl Creek Road, Greenwood.
