William Tensley Lawton, 89, widower of Sylvia Sexton Lawton, died Monday, July 26, 2010 at Roswell Nursing and Rehab, Roswell, GA. Born in McCormick, SC, he was a son of the late Walter and Nellie Mae Lindley Lawton. He received his B.A. degree in Education from Wofford College, where he was a member of the Terrier Club. He taught at Columbia High School, Lake City, FL and was a member of the National Education Association and the Florida Education Association. He was a US Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Lawton was a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God, Lake City, where he taught Sunday school for over fifty years, was a Deacon and an Elder. Surviving is his daughter and son-in-law, Rita L. and Christopher Young of St. Petersburg, FL; two sons and daughters-in-law, William Byron and Paula Lawton of Lake City, FL and Roger K. and Angela Lawton of Roswell, GA; three sisters, Zelene White of Edgefield, SC, Sara Gunnells of Greenwood, SC and NelliJean Brown of Belton, SC and six grandchildren, Matthew Lawton, Caleb Lawton, Joey Lawton, William Battista, William Lawton and Alexis Young.
