Silas William Waites, 84, of 1004 E. Grumling Road, husband of Eula Turner Waites, died Monday, March 23, 2009 at his home. Born in Saluda County, he was a son of the late William Witt and Leona Styron Waites. He was a carpenter by trade, having been employed by Lander University and Greenwood Speciality and was a member of Providence Baptist Church. Surviving is his wife of the home; a daughter, Barbara Baker and her husband, Millard; three grandchildren, Vincent Baker, raised in the home, and his wife, Dana; Cheryl Baker Phillips, raised in the home, and her husband, Sam; Sharon Powell and her husband, Chip; five great grandchildren, Zachary Powell, Wesley Powell, Benjamin Baker and Caleb Baker, all of Hodges and Devry Bowie of the home; two sisters, Ellen Bryant of Hodges and Lou Bussey of Edgefield and a brother, Clyde Waites of Ninety Six.
